Battalion Sports Day, by Lewis Cox
As you may of heard, the lads travelled to Tamworth athletics stadium to take part in the Battalion sports day for 2008.
The Junior Section lads finished runners-up to the 5th West Bromwich in their overall competition, & won their 4 x 50m relay at the end of the day ran by James, Imarn, Morgan & Tom. Imarn won his 75m race & Tom came joint first in the standing long jump.
We had success in the Company Section with Bradley winning the cricket ball, Ashley & Aaron coming 2nd in the 200 & 400m respectively & Joseph winning the high jump & 100m. The 4 by 100m relay was a tough race in this section with our lads (Joseph, Bradley, Ashley & Aaron) edging it out in a fine performance! All of this leading to a comprehensive victory all round!
In the Senior Section we also had victory with Karl winning the 100m, James coming 2nd in the 800m, Chris 2nd in the high jump & Greg managing 2nd in the 400m. The same 4 performed in the senior relay, while only against one other Company the lads won by some margin!
The lads had a great day & came home with lots of medals each!
CONGRATULATIONS!

Robin Hood 5-a-side competition - Company Section, by Lewis Cox
On Saturday 26th April a team of 8 of our own Company Section members travelled to Nottingham to take part in the national football competition, trying to retain the trophy minus 36 goals from Ishmael last year. The squad consisted of Aaron, Ashley, Lewis, Joseph, Bradley, Stephen, Ryan & Dale.
The competition got off to a good start with a deserved 3-1 win, Lewis & Joseph (2) with the goals, as the tournament went on another win came, but then the controversy came, in our games with eventual group winners the 1st South Shields, they won the toss & kicked off, to our lads surprise they shot straight from kick, which is against the rules, the ref shouted something so our goalkeeper Aaron went out of his area to fetch the ball so they could take kick off properly, but according to Mr referee the kick off was legal & Aaron conceded a penalty for being out of his area, they scored & took the lead, we fought back bravely but still went down 3-2.
The group finished with a great 2-1 victory against the 48th London, even though they only had 4 players, it was a great achievement with Bradley notching his only goal & Ashley with the other, superb blocking & defending near the end held the victory, we had a good wins against a poor side winning 6-1, & against against the hosts 32nd Nottingham with a 5-0 victory with a more than dubious refereeing decision to not give a more than blatant hand ball, the penultimate game was against the 70th London, win & we were through we unluckily went down 4-2, but still held our breath to see if we got through, unfortunately we finished fourth by a couple of points off 2nd.
The tournament could go down as a success the lads gained some fine results with Lewis & Ashley scoring 7 goals a piece, Joseph chipping in with 4 & Brad & Dale with 1 each, Aaron & Dale playing superbly in goal & Stephen coming on with some fine performances.
Well done lads, a great effort!!

Battalion Swimming Gala, by Lewis Cox
As you may of already heard the swimming gala held on the 19th of April was a huge success for all of the 3 sections associated with the 14th, with us being the junior & company section holders the pressure was on to re-do our efforts of last year, & boy did the lads deliver!
The junior section was an utter whitewash with the youngsters finishing with 56 points, more than double the 2nd place team! With wins from Matthew, Daniel & the triple James', with a superb performance & victory in the 4 by 25 relay.
For the company section a win was just as comfortable with wins from Ben, Jordan & Ryan, with Stephen trying his previously untried back stroke & coming a respectable third position, the moan of the evening again went to the great rivalry of our Aaron & the 5thWest Bromwich's Jake. It appeared to everyone that 'Azza' had just pipped it but it was given to Jake, harsh but we got the result at the end!
Moving on to the senior section, another great & resounding victory from our lads, with Greg coming 2nd & James coming 3rd, but the moment we were all waiting for came near the end, the senior section relay, introducing Simon! We all know about his talents in the quizzes, but the previously unseen swimming talents were amazing, with only 2 companys entering the result wasn't so important (thank goodness) & first went up Greg to do his 2 lengths & get us a great lead, & then It was the turn of Simon, it all started so well, with half the 1st half-a-length going easily, but then it caught up on him, knackered & continuously shacking his head at the amazement of where he was he resulted to walking the shallow end & floating on his back for the last 5m, truly hilarious, & that was before his attempts of getting out, but fair play without him we wouldn't have had a team!
Although, as said previously it was all for a good cause with our company walking away with all 3 trophies & a whole lot of medals, well done lads!!
